A GREENER APPROACH TO ENTERTAINMENT

“Green Venue” of the year in the 2023 MP Power Awards

The organisation of events inevitably exploits natural resources and generates a significant amount of waste. As one of the largest venues of its kind in Poland, PreZero Arena Gliwice is visited by hundreds of thousands of participants every year. Its impact on the environment is considerable, but so is its potential for change. We hope that by taking steps to make it more eco-friendly, we can prove that sustainable thinking can be successfully implemented in such venues.

Ecological education

Seeing as our events are attended by hundreds of thousands of participants every year, PreZero Arena Gliwice has an enormous potential for the popularisation of eco-friendly behaviours leading the way to a cleaner tomorrow, such as proper waste management.

This is why, together with PreZero Poland, we are organizing series of events aimed at the local community to educate them about sustainability and inspire them to take more eco-friendly steps in their daily lives.

Reducing electricity consumption

Compared to 2022, in 2023 we reduced our electricity consumption by 10%, saving 363 245 kWh, which is approximately the amount of energy consumed in a year by 180 households!

This is a result of a number of changes we made, such as transitioning to LED lighting, replacing circuit brakers with bistable switches with auto shut-off, optimising our heating system for maximum efficiency and modernising automation in the Building Management System (BMS). 

Our team also played an important part. All employees have completed energy efficiency training.

Waste segregation

In January 2024, following an audit conducted by PreZero Poland, we implemented a tailored waste management system. Thanks to the audit, we know exactly what types of waste are generated in different parts of the venue, and we are able to segregate them accordingly. Thus, the bins in the venue allow for the segregation of two types of waste – plastic and mixed waste. Outside and in our offices, we have bins with five compartments for plastic, glass, paper, biodegradable and mixed waste.

All bins feature infographics, which tell our guests where to put their waste.

Eliminating single-use plastic in the food courts

PreZero Arena was the first venue of its kind in Poland to eliminate the use of plastic in the food courts and introduce reusable cups. As of January 2024, all drinks, including coffee and tea, are sold in returnable cups.  

Additionally, we use paper tray and straws, as well as eco-friendly wooden cutlery.

Water dispensers

In January 2024, we installed 10 water dispensers for our guests to use during events. They can also buy reusable Dafi filter bottles, which are available to buy in the food kiosks.
